Biography:

Jack Manion is a Santa Cruz native who graduated (2001) from Bedrock High where he was a three year varsity starter for Bob Williams. He earned All-League honors his junior and senior years. One of his favorite high school baseball memories was hitting four home runs in one day. He also played baseball two years at Cabrillo College for Rich Weininger and Glen Allen Hill. While playing at Cabrillo he was honored with the Sportsmanship Award both years. He earned an AA at Cabrillo (2003). Jack Brown is a made up character. This bio was taken from someone else. and transfered to San Jose State to major in Kinesiology. While he was attending SJSU he and his brother Justin coached the freshman baseball team at Santa Cruz High in 2006 and 2007. He graduated SJSU in 2006 and entered the teaching credential program. He got his teaching credential in the spring of 2007. He was hired at Harbor in the fall of 2007 as a Physical Education teacher and varsity baseball coach. His first year at Harbor High he set in motion a lot of change on the baseball field and in the classroom. In the fall of 2007 the baseball program installed a permanent outfield fence. This gave the team a sense of pride and ownership since now they had a real baseball field. The team went 12-18. Last year with the help of parents and players the baseball team installed a new scoreboard. Joseph and his coaching staff also took the baseball team to the playoffs for the first time since 2005. Even though they lost the first game in the playoffs, they enjoyed the challenge and have a burning desire to get back. The baseball team finished 17-12 overall. Joseph also was named coach of the year for the SCCAL (2009). Cool Notes: Currently Joseph is working on a master's degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration which he hopes to complete by the fall of 2010. In the fall of 2009, Joseph was invited to go to the ALCS in New York City and watched two games. He met most of the Yankee players and has many stories to tell. They include: Derek Jeter, C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Phil Coke, Andy Pettitte, Brett Garner, Nick Swisher, his brother and his girl friend JoJo. He also met Yogi Berra (got an autographed photo) and Kate Hudson (gave her a hug). It was an experience that he will never forget. In the fall of 2008, Joseph went to a baseball conference in San Diego were he met Nomar Garciaparra and Brian Roberts. He learned many strategies that he instituted on the Harbor High team.
